Uncovering the Truth: The effects of Anabolic Steroids in Women
Over the past week, I've been diving deep into the world of female bodybuilding and researching the effects of anabolic steroid use in women. What started as a simple curiosity quickly turned into an eye-opening exploration into the physical, emotional, and psychological toll these substances can take- especially on women who are pushing their bodies to extremes in a male-dominated sport.
As part of my research, I've been exploring a range of documentaries, podcasts, and video content that shed light on this often-overlooked topic. One of the most insightful documentaries I watched was "Super Sized She", which follows British body builder Joanna Thomas and her relentless pursuit of muscle growth, fame, and success. Another powerful film was "Pumping Iron 11: The women", a 1985 documentary that shows the early struggles of women trying to redifine femininity through strength and muscle. I also came across "Iron Sisters" by VICE, which givs a raw and honest look at modern female competitors and the fine line they walk between ambition and health.
In addition to these documentaries I have made alist of podcats featuring some doctors , to better understand the science and psychology behind steriod use. One that stood out was on the "All Me Podcast" featuring Dr.Kristy Appelhans, Titled "Enhanced Females" She breaks down what actually happens when women take performance -enhancing drugs and discusses the long-term consequences many aren't warned about.
This research has shown me that steriod use in female bodybuilding is a complex issue that raises important questions about physical and mental health, identity and expectations of women's bodies.
I'm excited to keep learning and continuie to share more as I go deeper into this topic.
